Hamlin Park Neighbors
In 2007 my neighborhood group, Hamlin Park Neighbors, decided to have its first ever fundraiser. We came up with the idea of having a dog event. What next? We had to raise money to host the event. With my background in advertising, I recommended we hire a designer to give the event a name and design a poster that would convey the tone of the event.
Mandy Toothaker and 705 Design were highly recommended by a colleague of my architect husband’s. We met. Her portfolio, while primarily corporate, showed tremendous creativity. Also, she was immediately inspired by the nature of the event. We hired her.
First we needed a name for the event. Mandy brainstormed the name and within less than an hour came up with Bow Wow Bash. Incredible. Loved it. Then she went to work on the poster. Within a day, she had the dog image and layout. I took it to my Board. They were awestruck. Mandy nailed it.
Hamlin Park Neighbors had never done an event like this, nor raised any money. By the strength of the poster, we raised $7000. within two weeks. We only needed $3000. for the event. We also were able to attract a prominent TV Sportscaster as our Emcee and 3 of our elected officials as judges on the strength of the poster. The poster showed we were serious, creative and were probably going to have a very successful event. The Board concurred that Bow Wow Bash was such a huge success because of the poster.
Having been a TV Producer in Advertising for 20 years, I’ve worked with many art directors. Working with Mandy was truly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with a creative. Her ideas are fresh and attention getting.. Furthermore, she was on time and on budget.
